Unequally yoked
So, if I believe that God will untimately embrace all of creation, and I do...doesn't that nullify the whole "Make sure you marry a Christian, because if you marry a non-believer he will pull you into hell" mentality?
I married a christian my first time. He is still one today. And that son-of-bitch screwed everything that walked during our whole marriage. He even got to 2nd base with one of our teenage babysitters. Excuse me if I choose character over religious affiliations the second time around!
Seems like people believe that once they accept Christ, they will become like him...
Not in the circles I run in!

Diana-
I found an article over at Roy' Blog, All Included, which you might find interesting. It deals with the verses in Romans 7. Seems we have totally misinterpreted what Paul had to say about marriage. Check it out!

I was unequally yoked or whatever they wanna call it - but in the end I love my wife. We didn't meet a church - thank God - but at a convenience store and didn't go about it the way the church so wished - we just did it our way. If you date, let it be someone you can at least stand and won't get in your way of succeeding.
How can we "accept" One who already is omnipotent....present in all things?
I sometimes think that the greatest obstacle to "finding" God is religious instruction that seems to make His presence a foreign concept. What if God isn't lost. What if we are....but only in our mind?
What if He already abides in us all but conditioned thinking blocks our realizing that? Have you ever seen the wonder of God in a little child?
It is amazing when we shut out all of the noise, especially religious noise, long enough to discover the still small voice that speaks from with in us....a Presence full of Peace.
I am sorry. I menat omnipresent, not omnipotent....but of course He is that too.
;-)
Diana,
You say you believe God will ultimately embrace all of creation.
As Biblical as that view may or may not be, do you believe God will embrace your faithless husband?
BB God already embraced the faithless husband - in my opinion - he died for us - not the other way around.
Burning Bush...why yes I do believe God will ultimately embrace my faithless husband (if I had one.)
The church teaches many things that are not biblical. In the end we have to decide for ourselves what is right and wrong.
Religion saves no one, nor does it recommend anyone to the Kingdom. Some of the worst emotional/spiritually/sexually abusive people I've known were religious.
The Theology students aka the future pastors of the SDA college I attended had wild reputations for being horny little devils. SCARY! One of them ran his hand up my best friends shirt on an evangelistic trip. Sin is NO respector of persons.
Thank God, Jesus saves.
Unequally yoked in my mind is more about character, faithfulness, honesty, integrity and the willingness to be real. I do believe a spiritual, or heart-to-heart connection is vital to a vibrant and intimate union.
